Lehi Xeriscaping & Water-Wise Landscape Design

Lehi yards take a beating. Summers here run hot and dry. Most afternoons, wind comes off Point of the Mountain. Freeze-thaw cycles crack the soil all winter. Roots take the damage. We design drought-tolerant yards that handle all of it, with native plants, drip irrigation, and hardscape built for a Utah winter. Most of our Lehi xeriscape projects qualify for state and district rebate money, and we build the paperwork into the job.

Our Service Area in Lehi

We work with homeowners across Lehi, from the ridgeline down to the older streets near Main.

Traverse Mountain sits high on the bench. The soil runs rocky and drains fast, and the afternoon sun hits hard up there. Thanksgiving Point and Holbrook Farms sit lower, where new construction leaves compacted, nutrient-poor ground behind. Spring Creek, Jordan Willows, Silver Lake, and Ivory Ridge round out the neighborhoods we visit most.

Why Xeriscaping Fits Lehi

Builder-Grade Yards Need Help

Lehi has grown fast, and plenty of lots were finished to the builder minimum. Thin topsoil. Narrow park strips that bake all summer. Sprinkler zones that never matched the shape of the yard. Sod goes down over compacted fill and struggles from year one. Grading pushes runoff toward the sidewalk instead of into the beds. A xeriscape fixes the soil first, then plants into it.

Water Bills Peak in July

Outdoor watering drives most of a Lehi summer water bill. Turf drinks the most and holds none of it.

Lehi is in Phase 2 of its Water Shortage Management Plan. Secondary irrigation runs April 15 to October 15, and the city asks residents to hold off on lawn watering until May 1. A lawn that wants water daily in July is a lawn the city is asking you not to keep.

Drip lines feed the root zone instead of the sidewalk. Gravel mulch and boulders steady the soil temperature and cut evaporation. Most homeowners we work with drop their outdoor water use by half or more after one full season.

HOA Rules Come First

Many newer Lehi developments spell out landscape rules in their CC&Rs. Some set a minimum percentage of living plant cover. Others limit gravel in the front yard or cap plant height near sidewalks. We read the CC&Rs first and draw plans that clear review the first time.

What We Build in Lehi

You approve the finished yard on screen, then we break ground. Plant placement, sight lines, and material choices all get settled first.

Zoned lines and smart controllers put water where roots need it. No overspray, no runoff down the gutter.

Usable outdoor space and slope control, built to last through Utah winters.

Seasonal cutbacks, weed control, and drip system checks. A few visits a year, not a weekly mowing contract.

Plants That Hold Up in Lehi

Blue grama and little bluestem carry texture into fall. Penstemon and blanketflower bring color from May through August. Rabbitbrush blooms yellow late in the season, after most things fade. Yarrow, Russian sage, and creeping thyme fill gaps and crowd out weeds. Serviceberry and mountain mahogany anchor the beds on foothill lots.

Every plant on that list is drought-tolerant, roots deep, and gets through August on very little water. All of them qualify under the rebate program.

Xeriscape Rebates for Lehi Homeowners

Lehi sits in the Central Utah Water Conservancy District. That puts your property inside the Landscape Incentive Program, run through Utah Water Savers. Lehi homeowners leave real money on the table every year by skipping it.

What the Rebate Pays

Lawn replacement pays up to $3 per square foot. Your rate tracks your city and your water provider. Enter your address on the Utah Water Savers portal for the number on your street. Residential projects cap at $50,000. A second track pays for converting existing spray beds over to drip. Smart controllers earn up to $100 back on top of that.

Apply First, Dig Second

This is the step that costs Lehi homeowners their rebate. Applications need written pre-approval. Grass torn out ahead of that approval stops qualifying, and no appeal brings it back. The Landscape Incentive Program rules call for a base map of your current yard, photos of every project area, and a full plan for the conversion. An inspector checks the finished xeriscape against what you submitted.

Where We Come In

We draw the landscape plan the application asks for. The rules are strict. Perennials have to cover half the project area at maturity. Mulch runs 3 to 4 inches. Every converted bed needs drip on its own zone with a filter and pressure reducer. Park strip plants cannot top 24 inches. We design to all of it from day one.

We shoot the photos and build the base map. The program leaves city and HOA compliance to you as the property owner, and Lehi CC&Rs sometimes conflict with rebate minimums. We reconcile the two on paper, then dig.

Common Questions About Xeriscaping in Lehi

What does a xeriscape cost in Lehi?

Price tracks square footage, soil condition, and how much hardscape you want. A park strip conversion runs a few thousand dollars. A full front yard runs more. We give you a firm number after we walk the property.

Will my yard look like rocks and cactus?

No. A good Lehi xeriscape has grasses, flowers, shade trees, and open space. Gravel does the work between the plants, not instead of them.

How long does installation take?

Most Lehi projects run one to two weeks. Larger builds with retaining walls or patios take longer. You get a schedule up front.

What maintenance does a xeriscape need?

Far less than a lawn. Cut the grasses back in early spring. Weed the beds a few times a season. Check drip emitters twice a year. No mowing, no fertilizing, no weekly sprinkler repairs.

Can you work with my HOA?

Yes. We read your CC&Rs, draw plans to spec, and submit drawings for review.

How much money do Lehi rebates actually pay back?

Lawn replacement pays up to $3 per square foot. A 1,000 square foot park strip conversion can put a few thousand dollars back in your pocket. We check your exact rate at the first walkthrough.

Will a xeriscape help my Lehi home sell?

A finished xeriscape helps a Lehi home sell, though we cannot promise a number. Buyers see a yard that is done, with no sprinkler repairs waiting for them and a lower water bill every summer. Compare that to a listing where the new owner inherits a lawn and a 20-year-old irrigation system.

"Design fits the space perfectly..."

From initial consultation to project completion was two weeks and at a fair price! Design fits the space perfectly. Plants installed will look great as they mature. Very excited to see it over time. Thanks for the great job.
